Complexity made simple 😌
How did we implement data visualization successfully, you may ask? Well ask and you shall receive:
• User-Centered Design: Focused on the needs and goals of the target audience, ensuring the data visualization was intuitive and easy to interpret.
• Clear Hierarchy: Used a clear visual hierarchy, with larger or bolder elements highlighting key data points, guiding users’ attention naturally.
Color and Contrast: Applied a strategic color palette to distinguish different data sets while maintaining accessibility for colorblind users.
Minimalist Approach: Avoided clutter by simplifying the visual design, only including essential information and visuals that directly support user insights.
Interactive Features: Implemented interactive elements like tooltips, filters, and zoom to allow users to explore data deeper, improving engagement and understanding.
Real-Time Data Updates: Integrated real-time data feeds, ensuring that users received up-to-date and relevant information.
Performance Optimization: Ensured smooth and responsive performance for the data visualization, even with large data sets, by optimizing loading times and transitions.

Built the design team a seat at the table 🪑
Next, you may be wondering, how did one designer manage to juggle 12+ scrum teams while maintaining design integrity?
Here’s how I created a seat at the table for design that wasn’t originally there
• Clear Vision and Strategy: Defined a compelling product vision aligned with business goals, ensuring the team had a shared understanding of the project’s direction and purpose.
• Design System Implementation: Established and maintained a design system, ensuring consistency and efficiency across the product while empowering team members to contribute within defined guidelines.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Actively engaged with product managers, engineers, and stakeholders, fostering open communication and ensuring design was integrated into every stage of the development process.
• Advocacy for Users: Acted as the voice of the user throughout the design process, ensuring that decisions were always grounded in user research, data, and empathy.
• Design Authority: Made final design decisions when necessary, confidently resolving conflicts or ambiguities and ensuring the product’s design direction remained cohesive.
• Iterative Feedback Loops: Created a process for continuous feedback and design iteration, facilitating user testing, design reviews, and quick refinements based on team and stakeholder input.
• Risk Management: Anticipated design-related challenges or risks, addressing them early in the process and guiding the team toward solutions without compromising the overall vision.
03
Results speak for themselves 🙊
How did we measure success and did our team absolutely crush it? (spoiler: yes we did)
Conversion Rate: Up 25% to 82% conversion rate.
.Usability Testing Scores: Average rating for the software was up from 3.8 to 4.6 for ease-of use, up from 3.5 to 4.4 for efficiency, and up 3.2 to 4.5 for satisfaction
Time on Task: THIS WAS A BIG ONE! Catching fraudsters requires speed. Time to action a fraud case went from 3 minutes to 30 SECONDS 🎉
We utilized Pendo, moderated user testing and surveys to determine these numbers.

Frequently Asked Questions
What was your design process for this project?
Used the tried and true, Identify > Ideate > Evaluate > Create method.
How did you collaborate with product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders on this project?
Had several whiteboarding sessions, feedback loops and general team sync ups to make sure designs were aligned with both business and customer needs.
How did you overcome any roadblocks or unexpected issues?
Doesn’t any problem worth solving face some hurdles? You bet there were roadblocks including technical constraints, resource constraints and budget constraints. All were handles by small tweaks to designs an priority evaluations.
Looking back, is there anything you would have done differently on this project?
I may have gone back and really tried to gain more understanding over the 10 year vision for the product. Although I made sure to keep it evergreen as possible, it would have been a benefit to ask more Qs about long-term goals.
